Minister parleys Tertiary Institutions on RRI

Health Minister parleys with Chief Executives of Federal Tertiary Health Institutions on Rapid Result Initiative (RRI).
The Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, has met with Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of federal tertiary health institutions under the purview of the federal ministry of health on the Implementation of Rapid Result Initiative (RRI) tagged Better Health for All programme, aimed at providing free health care to less privilege Nigerians.
Speaking during the event, the Minister said that the overall goal of Better Health for all was to provide free healthcare to those that cannot afford to pay.
Adewole said “I knew so many things have been done in many of the tertiary health institutions, some of the hospitals have indigent fund, but we though it is important to start something supported by Federal Government so we said let’s do 10,000 free surgeries to poor Nigerians within specified time frame”
The Minister urged the Chief Executives to report quickly any challenges observed during or after the operation to the Federal Ministry of Health.
He said “what we want from you are records of the people screened, those that were qualified, pictures of the patients before and after the operation and also we want know if there was complication”.
The Minister called on the Chief Executives to share knowledge and information about the programme to enable the Ministry and the Chief Executives have common understanding on the programme.
Adewole assured Nigerians that the programme would be sustained. “Next year we would find more money so that we can keep on supporting poor people. The present administration was keen in providing free healthcare to Nigerians that cannot afford to pay” he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman Committee of Chief Medical Directors (CMDS) and Medical Directors (MDS), Federal Tertiary Institutions, who is also the Chief Medical Director, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Dr. Thomas Agan, commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for providing the funds for free surgery to the indigent Nigerians.
He assured the Hon. Minister that the Committees would comply with the directive of the Federal Ministry of Health and also ensure the success of the Rapid Result Initiative ( Better Health for All) Programme.
