FMOH ADDRESSING THE COMPLAINTS RECEIVED FROM THE ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTISTS OF NIGERIA

The attention of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has been drawn to the complaints raised by the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria.

The Ministry recalls the 2003 Act NO. 11 enacted by the National Assembly by the Federal Republic of Nigeria establishing as a body known as the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria whose mandate is to regulate the practice of medical Laboratory Science.

According to the Act, the Governing Board is established for the council which consists of a Chairman who shall be a qualified fellow of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria with 5 years post qualification experience and shall be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Minister from the list of names of the fellows submitted by the Association.

Having received a letter of dissatisfaction from the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria by the Ministry, on the recent appointment of the Chairman of the Governing Council, the Ministry is already looking into the appointment as stipulated by the Act and will ensure that the content is followed in appointing the Chairman of the Council.

The Council will be constituted in due course. As it is now, this matter has been resolved and there is no need for anybody to be aggrieved.
