FMOH&SW COLLABORATES DKT INTERNATIONAL TO IMPROVE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH
Federal
Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with DKT International
(a non profit Organization) has flagged off State Cascade Training on Long-Acting
Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) for health practitioners with emphasis on Levoplant
and Homonal- IUD held on 25th March, 2024 at Grand Cubana Hotel, Jabi Abuja.
Declaring
the training open, the Director Reproductive Health Division, Federal Ministry
of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Binyerem Ukaire emphasized the need for all
stakeholders in the health sector to put hands together “as the crusade is not
for the President alone”, stating the need for the trainees to impact
positively, the knowledge acquired to their clients, considering the critical
nature of Family Planning.
"These
are new products introduced in the family planning method mix, so it’s very
critical and that informs this training that we can give quality services to
people from our various facilities" she stressed.
According
to her, Nigeria is seriously confronting social and economic development
challenges and by 2050, it is envisaged that it will be seventh most populous
Nation, hence the need for quality family Health Services.
Reiterating
the main objective of the training which is to enhance the capacity of the
health personnel, she assured the support of the Ministry as the training will
be conducted for all service providers in FCT and beyond.
Dr.
Ukaire commended the efforts of DKT International in procuring health products
especially that of family planning as it is cost effective.
Expressing
gratitude to the stakeholders and partners undertaking the family planning project, Dr. Ukaire, hoped
that the next event would be on assessment of the positive results obtained as
the outcome of the training and achieving family planning of 27 percent modern contraceptives
by the year 2030.
In his remarks,
the Director Family Planning, FMOH &
SW, Mr. Lawrence Anyanwu described Family Planning “as an important factor that
improve lives of both women and children, therefore it must be taking seriously
by all”.
He
charged the participants to be obligated to the course of impacting positively the
society as the trainees render right counsel to their clients in order to
minimize challenges in family planning, asserting that the Ministry of Health
is committed to training its staff to give adequate services to the Nigeria
populace.
