PRESS RELEASE: Corruption, A Scourge Hindering Economic Growth-Says Daju Kachollom mni. -Induction Ceremony of New ACTU members

The Permanent Secretary made this known in a keynote address at the formal inauguration and induction of new members into the  Anti-corruption and Transparency Unit  (ACTU) of the Federal Ministry of Health &  Social Welfare.

Represented by the Director Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine Department in the Ministry, Pharmacist Titus Tile; Daju Kacholom mni. explained that the induction ceremony underscored Government efforts in promoting transparency, accountability and integrity.

The inauguration, she further stated, demonstrated a commitment to frontally fight corruption, identifying it as a scourge that has eaten deep into the very fabric of our society.

"The Anti- Corruption and Transparency unit represents a major step forward in our quest to build a society that values honesty, ethics and, fairness"; the Permanent Secretary posited.

Elaborating further on its critical importance in Federal Government work space, the Permanent Secretary charged the inductees to uphold the highest level of integrity, professionalism and impartiality.

"Let us work together to create a health sector that is just, equitable and free of corruption"; she added.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission( ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu SAN, acknowledged the crucial role of the Ministry in providing quality healthcare services to Nigerians in line with international best practices.

To actualize this mandate, Dr. Musa Aliyu, represented by Mr. Adeogun....., stated that the Anti-Corruption Unit will be instrumental to the course.

For emphasis, he said" The Anti-Corruption and Transparency unit (ACTU) will be instrumental in realizing this vision if empowered to effectively execute its functions. I therefore commend the Permanent Secretary for her foresight and support in facilitating this inauguration."

ACTU, the Chairman pointed out, is not set up as a parallel authority to the Management. Rather , they are expected to operate under the direct oversight of the Permanent Secretary, to complement management's efforts in promoting transparency and accountability within the Ministry.

The inductees are Yakubu Bulama, Jagindi Ezekiel, Jibrin Dan Azumi, Barr. Fatima Bukar Usman, Chidimma Edekwu and Sa’adiya Aliyu Auta.
